Sunday Best

Today has been tough. Five years ago I was working in 50 degree heat in the Yarra  Valley while the worst bushfires in a long time raged around me. It was a pretty scary day, but I got through it and went home and to bed. You see, bushfires are part of living in Australia. It happens every year. In fact a huge number of our native species of flora require fire to pollinate and spread. It’s just part of life here. But by the time I woke up the next day people had died, thousands of homes had been lost and an ENTIRE town had been engulfed in a massive firestorm that destroyed everything and everyone in it’s path. It seemed everyone knew someone who had lost their home or their lives.

Today we have conditions that are the worst we have seen since that day. Thankfully we learnt from that day and today has not been as horrific as it could be. But it didn’t stop me from stressing. Watching the alerts constantly and being shocked when metropolitan areas were being evacuated. Text messaging people who are close to the fires and stressing when you don’t hear from them. Hope all you lovelies have stayed safe today and remember – please evacuate as early as possible. No possession is worth your life…not even a collection of vintage hats! Some excellent advice was posted this time last year by Super Kawaii Mama (post HERE ) who evacuated today. My thoughts area with you lovely!

So onto this weeks outfit post…though it seems kind of insignificant. That being said, glamorous ladies kept spirits high during the war and other tough times….

Miss Fairchild - Sunday BestI have been playing around with makeup more lately and on this day it was all about PINK. THINK PINK!

Eyebrows – B Collection Brow Box “Light/Medium”

Eyeshadow – Light pink (unknown brand)

Mascara – Benefit “They’re Real”

Blush – E.L.F Studio Blush “Pink Passion”

Lipstick – Laura Mercier “Mistress”

Miss Fairchild - Sunday BestMy fabulous new vintage cream hat!

I really wasn’t sure about this hat. It sat in my wishlist for awhile before I impulse bought it. It just looked too “bridal”. I also wasn’t sure about it as the feature side is on the right, like most hats, but I always wear my hats on the left. BUT this is perfect. It nestles into the hair just behind where I have my feature curls/waves and looked divine! Still swooning now.

Miss Fairchild - Sunday BestStruggling to make these outfit posts interesting/new when almost all my clothes are in storage…thankfully it was cold enough this day for a cardigan which meant NEW OUTFIT…sort of….

Hat – Vintage from Crancove Vintage on Etsy

Cardigan – Anthropologie

Skirt – Op Shopped

Shoes – Target Black Ballet Flats

Keep safe everyone

Miss Fairchild xoxo

  1. those years ago, a friend of mine had a house in an area where it and another were the only ones not badly damaged (other homes were destroyed) by the fires. The only difference was that these two homes had sprinkler systems installed. The fire crew on site told them this is what saved their homes… however it was really disappointing to the lucky owners that in the extensive news coverage including fire safety, sprinkler systems were never mentioned. It’s something that has always stayed with me.

  2. I’m glad your safe! Also that white blouse is delicious.

  3. I love the hat! Wish I could send you some rain from QLD too. We used to live in Glenrowan on 50 acres, and bushfire was our biggest fear. No chance of that here, we just get cyclones and floods! xx
